What is differentiated Instruction?
Differentiated instruction means tailoring instruction to meet individual needs and giving students the opportunity to develop their particular strengths. Whether teachers differentiate content, process, products, or the learning environment, the use of ongoing assessment and flexible grouping makes this a successful approach to instruction (Tomlinson, 2000). Differentiated instruction requires teachers to be flexible in their approach to teaching and adjust the curriculum and presentation of information to learners rather than expecting students to modify themselves for the curriculum.

This video shows how to help struggling students like J.T. with extra doses of reading and one-on-one tutoring.

I found this link quite interesting and useful because:
a. it lists some key principles that form the basis of DI (Differentiated Instruction)
b. it gives a list of books that you can use as references to explore DI in a detailed manner
c. it lets you have a peek into a teacher's class where the teacher is experimenting differentiation with reading instruction and finally
d. it has a wonderful list of nine points to make reading instruction really interesting and differentiated.

This link demonstrates how to guide our students in using texts, by making predictions and then reviewing if they were correct. There is a piece specific to differentiation as well.

The link gives definitions of the terms that are related to differentiating instruction, what it looks like in practice and it offers new sources. It gives a detailed lesson plan based on DI. You should have a look at it.

Like most articles, the article in this site focuses on the points like the importance of being variable in a way we choose the materials, process and assessment. Different sites elaborate the same point in different headings with different examples.

http://www.collaborative.org/sites/default/files/DYS_ELA_Guide_Final.pdf shows a chart on nine ways to differentiate instruction. Page 39 is a set of reflection questions on the importance of our interaction with our students. These reflection questions are interesting as they help us refer to learning styles and students' needs. From page 114, we can see samples of differentiated lesson plans to meet the needs of each student.

wiki about online Differentiated Instruction resources. It has definitions, approaches, discussion, extensive reading, activities and strategies and what caught my attention is that it includes recommended starting points for people, that similarly to me, tend to get lost with a huge amount of information.
